Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his two-day official visit to the United Kingdom on Thursday, calling it a “very important” trip with far-reaching outcomes for future generations and shared prosperity between the two nations.

Taking to X, PM Modi shared highlights of the visit and expressed gratitude to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the UK government, and the British people for their warm hospitality.

“Concluding a very important UK visit. The outcomes of this visit will benefit our future generations and contribute to shared growth and prosperity,” he posted.

Among the memorable moments was an informal “Chai Pe Charcha” with PM Keir Starmer at Chequers, the UK Prime Minister’s country residence. Sharing a photo from the interaction, Modi wrote: “‘Chai Pe Charcha’ with PM Keir Starmer at Chequers… brewing stronger India-UK ties!”

The camaraderie between the two leaders was also on display during a joint press briefing. In a light exchange during translation pauses, PM Modi quipped, “Don’t bother, we can use English words in between,” prompting Starmer to smile and say, “I think we understand each other well.”

Drawing from cricket, PM Modi said, “There may be a swing and a miss at times, but we always play with a straight bat,” describing the India-UK partnership as committed to a “high-scoring, solid partnership.”

The visit marked the formal conclusion of the much-anticipated India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which Modi called a “historic milestone.” The trade deal aims to significantly expand market access and deepen economic ties.

Highlighting the agreement’s benefits, PM Modi said it would open UK markets to Indian sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery, seafood, and engineering goods, while also easing the entry of Indian agricultural and processed food products. In return, Indian consumers will gain better access to UK-made goods like medical devices and aerospace components.

He also announced consensus on a Double Contribution Convention, which will enhance cooperation in technology and finance, ease business operations, reduce costs, and create employment opportunities.

PM Modi emphasized that these agreements would not only strengthen economic ties but also contribute to global stability and prosperity.
“These agreements between two vibrant democracies will give momentum to bilateral investments, create jobs, and boost confidence among businesses and investors on both sides,” he said.
